Some scars are visible. Others change the way you see yourself for years.

She was electrocuted before she could walk. Assaulted by the man she trusted most. Buried her son after gun violence took his life.

And she is still standing.

In The Scar and the Story: A Memoir of Survival, Self-Worth, and Unshakable Faith, Laticia A. Robinson tells her unflinching story of surviving trauma, devastating loss, distorted self-image, wounded choices, and a faith tested in ways she never expected.

Laticia entered childhood with a scar she did not choose and quickly learned what it felt like to be noticed for what made her different. Other people’s stares became part of how she saw herself. Over time, rejection and body dysmorphia helped convince her that she was damaged, undesirable, and somehow less worthy of love.

Those beliefs followed her into womanhood, impacting what she accepted and the choices she made while searching for love, belonging, and a sense of self-worth.

But survival would not be the end of her story.

Through painful reflection, healing, and an unshakable faith in God, Laticia began confronting the beliefs she had carried for years and discovering that her worth was never hers to earn or anyone else’s to determine.

The Scar and the Story speaks to the person carrying the weight of rejection, trauma, shame, or loss and searching for a way to see themselves differently.

A scar can be part of your story, but it does not have to have the final say.

About the Author

Laticia A. Robinson is a writer based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her life has been marked by survival: abuse, addiction, and the loss of her firstborn son to gun violence among them. Rather than let those experiences remain unspoken, she writes with the conviction that an honest story heals more people than a polished one ever could. She is a mother and grandmother whose faith has carried her through decades of hardship into a life of purpose.
